Presidential Message
We had another excellent Rotary week this week, starting with a terrific speaker from the Early Childhood Council. The organization has big plans to obtain additional funding that would greatly improve the landscape for accessibility and affordability of early childcare in Boulder County. We also had a very fun installation banquet last night, with special thanks to our hosts John and Maud Kenyon, and to our outgoing president, Mark Burnett for MCing the affair.
We also held our first Board meeting of this rotary year, where we discussed four key goals for our club this year:
Grow our membership by at least 10% (4 or 5 net new members)
Obtain a Global Grant to promote improved prenatal care for expecting mothers in Haiti
Restore our Club Service Committee to guide and support key internal efforts that keep our club functioning each week
Now that I have been officially sworn in as this year’s club President, let me officially say thank you to all of you for trusting me in this role, and thank you for each of your efforts that make our club impactful in our community and abroad. Let’s have a great year!
Welcome to Boulder Valley Rotary! Our meeting is on the University of Colorado Boulder campus but the exact building and room changes frequently. Always consult our website or this newsletter for the location for a particular week. Paid parking is usually available near the location.
Visitors - you are welcome to join us anytime! Come to a regular meeting or join us in a service activity. We particularly invite you to explore becoming a member. In general, simply show up, sign-in, wear a name badge and start talking to people. We will happily cover your meal for your first 3 visits. Some service activities require advance registration so just contact us and we will make that happen.
Join other Rotarians in playing pickleball or just visit and cheer from the sidelines. Pickleball will be from 4-5 pm, we have 2 courts reserved. Please bring paddle if you have one. From 5-6, we can continue conversations in the dining area of Relish. No need to play pickleball.
We have a number of activities where we need help from our members. In any of these, you will be working with others to accomplish our service goals or to support the operations of the Club. Many of our signature activities are in need of new hands.
Club Newsletter -We are in need of a co-editor for our club newsletter to work with Jane Engel. Entry level computer skills needed. Contact Jane Engel if you are interested. 720-936-3525 janeengel8@gmail.com
Dictionary project - One of our main service activities with the BV schools. John Kenyon will be out of the country and needs someone to work with him to get things moving during his absence.
BeerFest - Our biggest fundraiser that supports many of our service activities during the year. Still looking for more breweries and other support prior to the day of the BeerFest. Contact Mark Burnett if you are willing to help. It will be all hands on deck for the event on September 12.
Yamagata North Visit - late September. Host the visitors from our sister club / city during their visit in September. You could host one dinner, an activity, or more. Talk with Steve Parrish.
Coat Drive- Our annual coat drive will begin in a few months and we need someone to head up the distribution part of this project. No meetings required. Basic organizational and record keeping skills needed. Contact Jane Engel janeengel8@gmail.com or Bob Harberg harbergr@gmail.com
